AGSA Minutes - February 17, 1999
In Attendance:
Maury Hutcheson (President), Bill McFarlane (Vice President), Peter Hoeman
(Treasurer), Daniel Mazeau (Secretary), Doug White, Laura Pearl, Susan
MaGuire, Kathleen Heffley, Tom Brunton..
Business:
- AGSA must provide the GSA an inventory of all equipment bought with
GSA funding. This will be undertaken by the Treasurer (Pete Hoeman) and
the President (Maury Hutcheson).
- The AGSA has yet to hear about the application to the GSA for the
Capital Improvement Funding. Funds gained form this would be used to
purchase a copier for the Graduate Student Lounge.
- The School of Social Work is sponsoring the Habitat for Humanitys
Alternative Spring Break, and asked the AGSA for a donation of $20. Vote
approved unanimously.
- Informal Colloquia:
- Tentative schedule is being set up. So far
Clara Banderali - February 26, 1999
Tom Brunton - March 17, 1999
Peter Hoeman - Late March/ Early April
- Dan Mazeau will look into the proper forms for reserving space,
video equipment, and permission to have alcoholic beverages.
- Discussion on getting "big name" speakers for the more formalized
colloquia. Funds for this will come from outside sources, specifically
the GSA University Wide Grant, and will probably occur sometime in April.
Suggestions for speakers are Judy Farquar and Marilyn Masson.
Bill McFarlane will look into these people and the feasibility of other
speakers.
- Departments search for additional faculty has been stalled by the
administration due to funding shortfalls. The likelihood of job talks by
applicants is in grave doubt at this time.
- Last meeting (11-30-98) we allocated $100 for the reimbursement of
office supplies for the graduate lounge. Thirty five dollars were given
to Maury Hutcheson for the purchase of ink for the printer. Susan MaGuire
will also be reimbursed following her submission of receipts.
- Social event (Spring Party) will be planned by the AGSA for late
March/early April.
- Suggestion made by Tom Brunton to look into upgrading the computer in
the graduate lounge. It specifically needs more memory. Tom will look
into prices, methods, and other supplies. Motion to allocate $320 for the
purchase of more memory. Vote approved unanimously.
- Discussion on the Anthropology Library
- Topics to bring up at the next Faculty meeting:
- The department needs more intergration and internal communication.
Complaints about the lack of any central source of information for
departmental involvement.
- Information needs to be put into the AGSA mailbox, which will
then be posted in the graduate lounge and in the department.
- Information also needs to be posted on the Antho email Listserve.
Repectfully submitted,
Daniel E. Mazeau,
AGSA Secretary.
