AGSA Minutes - February 2, 1998
In attendance:
Pete Hoeman, Bill McFarlane, Jen Trunzo, Hugh Jarvis, John
Floyd, Monika Bolino, Tom Brunton, Seth Murray (pres.), David Nolin
- Student help is requested for the annual Archaeometry Conference,
specifically with helping Monika arrange the catering, etc. If interested
in helping, contact Monika Bolino.
- It has been announced that the money for the Archaeometry Conference
will not be channeled through the AGSA after all.
- Seth Murray has purchased the latest Annual Review for the Anthropology
library.
- The possibility of students attending and presenting papers at the
NEAA meetings in Maine, at the end of spring break, or at the Pleser
Conference here at UB on April 3rd was discussed. The deadline for NEAA
proposals was Monday. Information on the pleser conference was recently
posted to the list by Maury Hutcheson.
- Seth is organizing colloquia for this semester, but so far no one has
committed to present their research.
- A party to blow off some steam has been proposed for Friday the 20th
of March. Although this is roughly the spring equinox, and this was the
reason for choosing this date, the AGSA is not expressing a religious
preference, pagan, Satanic, or otherwise. Or is it?
- There will be a party to clean the lounge on Friday the 13th of
February, at 4 PM. Refreshments will be provided. Those present
approved $20 to be allocated for the purchase of these refreshments.
- It was voted that we allow the ARD database
to be moved to one of the
lounge computers, since access in its present location has become severely
limited. Those involved with ARD have assured us that it will take little
memory on the computer, and that they will only take 2 or 3 hours of
computer time a week away from the normal users.
- As Monika posted, we have voted to clean up the Pentium.
- The cleaning staff has asked that we take more care to place regular
trash and recyclable paper each in the proper place.
- It was announced that some students in the department are working on
beginning a student-run journal of anthropology, and that they will be
looking for any and all interested students to get involved.
