STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

Description

There exist many professional pharmacy organizations in our school representing many areas of pharmacy. Most of these organizations are affiliated with a counterpart association on local, regional and national levels. For example: The Student Pharmacists Association of Western New York is an affiliate of the Pharmacists Association of Western New York (local) which is affiliated with both the Pharmacists Society of the State of New York (state) which if further affiliated with the American Pharmacists Association on the national level.

Rationale

Professional associations were created for several reasons:

· Networking: Meeting other pharmacists and students in an association is a great way to collaborate on ideas, professional positions and projects

· Issues: Coming together to help both patients and pharmacy with interactions with the community (health fairs, lectures etc) and other health professionals (medicine, nursing etc.).

· Legislative: Working to educate our representatives on issues concerning patients and pharmacy rights.

· Student development: Membership in one or two organizations is crucial to the professional development of the student and the transition to a fully educated professional.

Contact

The student is encouraged to contact the officers of each organization to find out what their organization is about. Note: do NOT join an organization unless you are willing to interact with other members and do something!
