THE HAZARDOUS MATERIALS WORKER TRAINING PROGRAM OF THE TOXICOLOGY RESEARCH CENTER

The Center's Hazardous Materials Worker Education Program has provided training required by federal and state regulatory agencies such as OSHA, EPA, DOT, DOE, and NYSDOH, etc. since 1989.  We offer HAZWOPER, Confined Space and Radiation Safety Training and we will also develop specific training courses for a facility to provide additional or more advanced training.  Our training philosophy has always emphasized high quality training responsive to the clients needs. We stress hands on training and practical exercises and employ instructors with practical field experience in the subjects they teach.

In keeping with this philosophy, the TRC will use instructors who are professional contractors and consultants with experience in the course material and other environmental fields.  Courses can be conducted at the University of Buffalo or at the client's site.

The TRC has been named one of 20 OSHA Sponsored Training Centers.  We will be known as the Atlantic OSHA Training Center (AOTC).  The AOTC is a partnership of: the University Medical and Dental School-School of Public Health Centers for Education and Training in New Jersey; the Toxicology Research Center of the University at Buffalo; and the Universidad Metropolitana INEDA, San Juan Puerto Rico.  The Center will be offering OSHA approved "Train-the-Trainer", initial and refresher courses in General Industry and Construction for trainers who teach the 10 and 30 Hr Outreach Courses.  AOTC will also offer courses in machine guarding, ergonomics, excavation and trenching, electrical standards, and permit-required confined space training.

The Toxicology Research Center is a member of the New Jersey/New York Hazardous Materials Worker Training Consortium, a group which includes: Hunter College School of Health Sciences, New Jersey Department of Health, New Jersey Department of Labor, New Jersey State Police Office of Emergency Management, New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health, and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

We train 1500 to 2000 workers per year.  A summary of our education program, a list of course offerings, and a partial client list are provided herein:
