David W. Thomason is an instructor and course developer with the Toxicology Research Center, Atlantic OSHA Training Center at the University of Buffalo. He has over 30 years experience instructing at the local, County, State and Federal level.

He is a past Fire Chief of a Village Fire Department and a past Assistant County Fire Safety Coordinator.  He was a fire instructor with Erie County and a BOCES vocational high school.  He was a New York State Fire Instructor for over 25 years and in currently an adjunct instructor with the New York State Office of Fire Prevention & Control, at the New York State Academy of Fire Science, Montour Falls, New York.  He also is an adjunct instructor with the National Emergency Training Center and the National Fire Academy, Emmitsburg, Maryland.  He is currently the Team Leader of the Southtowns Hazardous Materials Response Team and has been re-elected five times. The volunteer team covers 10 towns and 5 villages in the southern half of Erie County. He is also an instructor in the Public Safety Critical Incident Management program and he has over 38 years experience with the Pioneer Hook and Ladder Company, of the East Aurora Fire Department.   He is a founding member of the Ice Rescue Team and a certified SCUBA diver and past team leader of the Fire Department Underwater Rescue and Recovery Team.  He is also was an elected town councilman having served five terms.

His educational background includes: an A. A. S., degree in Fire Protection Technology from Erie Community College, a B. S., degree in Fire Safety & Governmental Management from Empire State College.  He has also completed numerous programs with the National Fire Academy, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the State Emergency Management Office and the United States Department of Justice. 

He is currently instructing programs involving: Terrorism and Domestic Preparedness with the Nuclear Biological Chemical and Biological Nuclear Incendiary Chemical and Explosive programs.  He is instructing programs involving Confined Space Rescue, Incident Command and Hazardous Materials response courses involving: Awareness, Operations, Technician and Hazardous Materials Incident Command certifications.
