Erie County Assists FDNY In World Trade Center Bombings
Tuesday, September 18, 2001
This morning, twenty ambulances from throughout Erie County returned to Buffalo from New York City. The units were deployed to assist FDNY in the aftermath of the World Trade Center Bombings. In response to a request issued through the New York State Office of EMS, Erie Couny EMS officials dispatched over one-hundred EMS responders to the New York City Area. The primary mission was to assist FDNY in rendering EMS services in lower Manhattan; specifically, units were deployed to the ground-zero area surrounding the former World Trade Center site. For a twenty-four hour period, ALS and BLS crews provided treatment and transport services to the thousands of emergency services workers digging through the debris in search of victims and survivors. All Erie County units performed professionally and represented our region well. A special thanks goes out to the men and women who volunteered for this difficult assignment.
