The Mini-Baja gives us an opportunity to design and build a tough, inexpensive off-road vehicle. The design criteria limits the abilities of the vehicles, yet allows us to use innovative problem solving to conceive and fabricate the best vehicle we can. The cars are forced to use an unmodified 8 hp Briggs and Stratton engine. Since we can not improve the design of the engine, we are forced to optimize the drivetrain and suspension of the vehicle.

In the past, we have only attended the midwest competition. For 1997 we plan on attending the midwest and the east competition. The east competition involves a fair amount of water. In order to go to the east competition we must design and build a new car. Some of the new features that must be added to the new car are a means of water propulsion and a floatation device.

Some of the events at the competition are the hill climb, acceleration, braking, steering, a three hour endurance race and the tractor pull. In 1995, U.B. placed in the top twenty, with the first place in the tractor pull.
