In addition to our project vehicles, UB SAE also hosts an educational-based community service called Junior Solar Sprint Competition.<p><table border=7 cell spacing=5 cell padding=5 align="right"> <tr><td align=cen

The competition is open to local seventh and eighth grade students in the Buffalo area. The students are provided with a solar panel, motor, educational software and a set of guidelines. Using basic physics and laws of mechanics, the children construct solar powered vehicles that race along a 20 meter guided wire track. Teams compete against their own school and teams from other schools.
he students cars were not only judged by the finish of the races, but three prominent UB engineering professors were also on hand to critique the entrants' vehicles on design, looks, innovation, and safety. A few awards were also presented for teamwork and sportsmanship.
1995 was the first year that the competition took place. It went very well and we look forward to organizing it in the years to come

A World in Motion

A World In Motion (AWIM) is a program started by S.A.E. International to help promote science, engineering and mathematics to children in grade school. AWIM consists of professional and student membership who teach basic physics lessons in a lab type atmosphere to kids in grades 4-6. U.B. S.A.E. is very optimistic about this program, because it gives student members a chance to speak in public, as well as reinforce their own background knowledge.
