The UB IT Community

The University at Buffalo IT Community is committed to sharing information, expertise, resources, and tools in a collaborative IT environment. This web site has the goal of making everyone in the IT community aware of and knowledgeable about IT resources, changes, and operational issues.

Staying Informed about UB IT

The CIO Office provides many different communication channels to keep you informed about UB, including the following:

  1. IT Newsletters: The semiannual UBIT Newsletter and the monthly IT Transformation newsletter (sent via email to the IT community)
  2. Web sites: The CIO Website and the UB 2020 IT Transformation website
  3. Meetings and Presentations: IT Town Hall meetings and presentations to campus constituencies and stakeholders at various venues
  4. Collaboration and Communication Tools: Many IT special interest communities have a listserv, wiki, or Sharepoint site, including the following:

Key campus IT resources that all campus IT staff need to know about include:

  1. Applications - providing links to services such as DHCP, EIS incident reports, Host on Demand, password reset forms, UB file system (UBfs), LDAP, and UBIT Alerts
  2. Software - providing links to commonly used software sites
  3. Documentation - providing links to local UB documentation
  4. Mobile - links to sites frequently used on mobile/handheld devices
  5. News - links to news sites frequently used by IT staff
  6. Attire - PDF of Business Casual Dress Guidelines

UB IT Advisory Groups and Governance

All members of the UB community are invited to bring issues and ideas to the following advisory committees, using the links below to send an email message to the committee chairs or to the CIO directly.

Executive Technology Advisory Group
Dr. Thomas Furlani, Chair
ETAG is charged to provide advice and policy guidance on information technology directions, strategies, policies, plans, priorities, and needs.

Enterprise Systems Advisory Committee
Susan Huston, Chair
ESAC, an arm of ETAG, acts in an advisory role to ensure that IT-based enterprise level software implementation and development projects align with the direction set by the University's senior leadership.

IT Leaders Group aka IT Node Directors Group
Dr. Thomas Furlani, Chair
The IT Leaders Group serves in an advisory role to the CIO and ETAG, providing technical advice on information technology directions, strategies, policies, plans, priorities, and needs. The group serves as the committee to bring emerging technology issues to the attention of ETAG and other University constituent groups.

Information Security Advisory Groups

Three groups provide advice to the Information Security Officer: the Information Security Risk and Policy Advisory Group, the Information Security Data Custodians Council, and the Information Security Technology Advisory Council.
